Vampires and werewolves may be hot this year, as New Moon's weekend take proved, but what will be hot next year? CBS Films hopes it will be beasts, as in Beastly, as in a modern-day take on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale.

Should Joss be compared to Lucas and Cameron already?

The Producers Guild of America announced today that Joss Whedon will be honored with its prestigious 2010 Vanguard Award, joining a list of previous recipients that includes George Lucas, James Cameron and John Lasseter, Deadline Hollywood reported.

Whedon's humorous response won't be surprising to anyone who's seen his superhero spoof Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog or watched the way he accepted previous awards.

James Cameron explains why Avatar aliens have tails

James Cameron appeared on 60 Minutes last night, where he gave Morley Safer—and us—a behind-the-scenes look at how he went from being the director of "the very best flying piranha movie ever made" to the creator of the $400 million 3-D fantasy Avatar.

"This is the film I think I always wanted to make when I set down the path of being a filmmaker," said Cameron.

He also revealed the reason he gave his blue aliens tails—because: "Tails are cool!"

Harry Potter beats out Twilight as the book of the decade

Sorry, Stephenie Meyer! A movie made from your books may have won the weekend at the box office, but your novel Twilight only came in at #32 on a list of 100 books that defined a decade.

Topping the list is J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which the Telegraph said "stands as a cornerstone of the decade, a melding of high and low culture that appeals to all ages and nations."

While Rowling "is never less than absorbing" and "makes reading a 700-page book seem easy," Meyer's first novel, though considered influential, is described as "astonishing, mainly for the ineptitude of her prose" and "teen vampire schlock."
